Metra Train Photos -- Pics from Kenosha to Chicago

In August, E and I and her family went down to Chicago on the Metra. It turned out to a very cool trip. It wasn't all that expensive and was generally very convenient. I was able to capture some interesting images from the Metra on the way there and back and so I thought I'd share them with you.

I already posted one of them of the Pleasant Prairie Power Plant for the song Electric Resistor .

And so without further adu.... here's some pics:

Desert Sun

Greetings our fine fans... all 5 of you (hey and 2 of you are in the band and one of you is my mom so you don't count =) )! Here's a new post of the 2nd tune we did at the HOG gig back in October 2007 (yep this year, but not for long). The 1st tune we did was our sound check (hahahaha). You should check it out.

Yep, no Milwaukee sailboat pics this time! The Falcon is dead, but I still have a bunch of pics to post of her, which I will do in a while....

Anyhow, this tune seemed to match some pics I took in the Arizona desert back in Nov of this year when E and I went to go see ML.

Also, click here to check out a Cactus Dancing in the Arizona Desert Sunrise and listen to Zingo Bango Bomp at the same time!!

So enjoy. (special buzzing courtesy of Brad's amp =) ) BTW, give it a little time, this tune will definitely grow on you.

I was interviewed about the Falcon Chinook34 on the Milwaukee's lakeshore for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I talked my head off, but Dan Eagen, the author of the article, just used a couple of quotes.

It is a very cool article. Please check it out at:

What's very cool is that they also posted some of my pics. Check these out as well (although the copies on the soul-amp blog are a bit better quality):
Enjoy.

Some lines....

Falcon Chinook 34

Drew by wind
On 60 years
Slicing in the liquid highway
Stole away from modern clamor
Now awaits upon the rocks

Her bow calls out, she wants to fly now
But sail and mast have left her hull
She greets the sun, observed, abandoned
To ice, to wind, to waves and stones

Beached Milwaukee Sailboat - with mast removed during cold Lake Michigan sunrise - 12-06-2007 -- soul-amp.com
The mast has been removed. It was removed on either Tues 12/4 or Wed 12/5. Here's the latest sunrises images. It was about 7 degrees Farenheit when these pictures were taken. The sailboat looks even more forlorn without her mast. I'm glad that someone was able to salvage some of her so that those parts will at least live on. I wonder if they will remove more or will they chop of the rest of the Falcon. We'll have to see. If anyone knows and would like to comment, please do. Also, feel free to send any images you'd like me to post... I'm especially interested in any pics of the salvage.

Milwaukee grounded sailboat at sunrise - 12-01-2007 - soul-amp.com
I talked to a guy from one of the sailing centers (can't recall which one) and I found out the make of the boat... it's a Chinook 34. Here's another a blog that mentions it. You can read my previous post on this stranded Milwaukee sailboat for more information.

On Friday, some people came in wetsuits and removed The Falcon's sail and boom.

Here's sunrise pics from Friday, Saturday and Sunday (yep, no real sunrise on Sunday 12-2):

Seeing if the waves are currently moving the stranded Lake Michigan Sailboat...

Yep, crazy me. Took some more pics of the sailboat stranded on the shores of Lake Michigan this morning. Got to experience a beautiful sunrise. I will go through all the pics later and post the very best of the sailboat pics, but for now here's 2 pics that show that I was wrong and it's not moving much at all right now.... between 11-23-2007 and 11-25-2007 I thought that it has moved closer to shore. These pics seem to prove that it has not... at least not much. Use the rocks it's next to determine it's position in the two shots. It definitely has moved much closer to shore since it was originally grounded. Man, notice how much the water level changes though.... not really due to tides though I don't think... mostly likely just the wind slushing the water back and forth between Milwaukee and Michigan.

And another thing that interests me is that it appears as the sailboat has been pushed into shore its keel may have cut a channel. Check out where the ducks and seagulls are gathered in front of the boat...that's deeper water:

I took more pics yesterday morning (11-25-2007) of the 34 foot sailboat, The Falcon, that is stranded about 30 yards out from the beach in Lake Michigan just North of Bradford Beatch in Milwaukee. See the previous post for more information. It has moved into shore about another 10 to 20 yards due to the waves. I have even more pics of it (very cool sunrise pics) which I will be posting in the next couple of days. I believe the owner has until November 30th to recover it and then the coast guard will start charging him or they will chop it up with chain saws. I'll try and check on it in the next couple of days. Have a great Monday!

The Falcon -- Milwaukee, WI sailboat stranded on the shores of Lake Michigan

Sailboat in Milwaukee, WI stranded on the shallows of Lake Michigan moves closer to shore 11-23-2007

The Falcon Sail Boat stranded on Lake Michigan moves closer to shore 11-23-2007 - soul-amp.com

I took this pic this morning. I'll post more soon (I may go out and take some more pics of it tomorrow, since my batteries ran out this morning and I had been neglectful about charging). It was cold this morning; about 17 degrees Farenheit. You can see some of the ice on it. If the ice forms out from the shore later this year, we'll be able to walk out to it and then it'll get destroyed by ice and vandals.

This is a sail boat that got stranded on the shallows just North of Bradford Beach on October 30th, 2007. Brad saw it just after it got stuck and the individuals were still onboard. He contacted the coast guard. Click here for his account of the story. There's also a story about the boat on JSOnline here. Turns out this guy named Pavel Bernek was restoring the Falcon, a 1950s era boat, and was planning on sailing it across the atlantic. It appears the boat has moved considerably closer to shore now since the 11-15-2007 JsOnline story (perhaps due to the windy days we had last week). In the story it was pointed toward shore as quoated here "She is ironically being cradled by the very demons that ended her life. The wind and waves have now turned her bow toward shore, as if to say I want to go home, won't somebody please rescue me from this fate."... Now it's point lake-side and appears to want to sail away. I hope they find away to at least salvage some it.....
